Resumen

Durante el periodo colonial en el Perú, gente libre y esclavizadade ascendencia africana no sólo constituía una parte significativa de la población costera, sino también vivían y trabajaban en toda la región andina. Sin embargo, estas poblaciones han sido insuficientemente representadas en la investigación arqueológica, o han sido rendidas invisibles por las metodologías y preguntas no relacionadas de manera directa a la diáspora. En este artículo se plantea cuestionar la historia y cultura material de la diáspora africana en el Perú —el desarrollo de un estudio con énfasis en las posibles contribuciones y potencialidades de una perspectiva arqueológica. También se presentan los resultados preliminares de la Temporada 2012/2013 del Proyecto Arqueológico Haciendas de Nasca (PAHN), el primer proyecto en el Perú que cuenta con un programa de investigación principal enfocado en la cultura material de los afrodescendientes. A través de una investigación arqueológica sistemática e histórica de las haciendas jesuitas de Nasca (1619-1767), el PAHN pone de relieve tanto las estructuras coercitivas con las que se organizaba la mano de obra de las haciendas como algunas de las maneras en las que los africanos esclavizados expresaron su propia agencia.
