About the Journal

1. Presentation

Allpanchis (ISSN 0252-8835 and electronic ISSN 2708-8960), an international magazine dedicated to understanding the Andean world, is currently edited by the Universidad Católica San Pablo (Arequipa, Peru). In its new stage, it is a continuation and follower of the principles and ideals that moved the Institute of Pastoral Andina (IPA), based in Cusco, to its foundation in 1969 under the name Allpanchis Phuturinqa ("our land will germinate").

As of the 75th issue, Allpanchis began to be co-published with the San Pablo Catholic University, a member of the IPA board of directors. Before the definitive closure of the Andean Pastoral Institute in 2018, its board of directors legally transferred the relative rights of the magazine to its publishing partner, in order to give continuity to this emblematic publication. Then the members of its editorial board accepted the challenge of continuing the work of the emblematic magazine, thus initiating a new stage in its history under the aegis of the aforementioned house of studies.

2. Focus and scope

Since its appearance in 1969, Allpanchis is a periodic scientific publication, whose objective is the dissemination of original and unpublished articles from the broad field of social sciences, with a special interest in the Andean world. It fosters a multidisciplinary approach, welcoming the work of academics dedicated to the social sciences (Archeology, History, Anthropology, Art History, Linguistics, etc.), whose research deals with the Andean theme in a broad sense (from the geographic perspective, historical, anthropological, ethnic, etc.).

Despite the special interest in the Andean region, Allpanchis is not limited exclusively to that space. Taking into consideration a shared and interconnected stories approach, the journal hosts studies on other regions when they can serve for reflection in the Andean area.

The biannual periodicity characterizes the magazine, with each new issue appearing in June and December.

The journal publishes, after evaluation by the blind peer system, articles written exclusively in Spanish, accompanied by abstracts and keywords. The contributions are accompanied by an abstract, keywords, and the title in English.

3. Frequency of publication

Allpanchis publishes two simple numbers per year defining, in this way, a semi-annual periodicity. As of 2020, it only publishes simple numbers, which must contain a minimum of six contributions between the "dossier" sections, articles, and notes.

4. Section Policies

The following sections have been defined in the Allpanchis content.

  • Presentation: Written by a member of the Executive Council or the Coordinator making a brief outline of the content of the issue, highlighting the central contributions of each article.
  • Articles within the dossier: They are framed within the theme defined in the issue.
  • Academic articles: Those that do not coincide with the theme of the dossier.
  • Notes: Interviews with representative figures, reviews of recent publications, reports of academic events, or research projects are considered.

Each simple number is made up of six collaborations (not including the one corresponding to "Presentation"). Of these, a minimum of three and a maximum of six must be inserted in the section “Articles within the dossier”. The appearance of sections "Free articles", "Bibliographic essays" and "Notes and sources" is not essential, the decision rests with the Executive Council.

5. Call and submission

The Editor / Executive Committee / Coordinator have the function of inviting academics to publish their articles in Allpanchis. These must come entirely from authors outside the publishing house. To meet standards of objectivity, only in very exceptional cases will contributions from people affiliated with the Universidad Católica San Pablo be published for the "Dossier" and "Academic Articles" sections.

In the same way, Coordinators can be defined, whose task is the elaboration of thematic numbers.

The manuscript must be sent through this virtual platform or to the following email address: allpanchis@ucsp.edu.pe.

Allpanchis does not charge any Article Processing Charges (APC) to authors or any other person or institution. Open access work is covered exclusively by the publishing house. Allpanchis also does not require payment to any person or institution for submission (submission charges).

6. Information services

The directories in which Allpanchis is integrated are Dialnet, DOAJ, ERIH-Plus, Latindex, and REDIB. More information at http://revistas.ucsp.edu.pe/index.php/Allpanchis/index.

7. Peer review process

The article sent to Allpanchis must be original and unpublished. While it is in the evaluation or editing process, which can take up to 48 weeks, its author or authors will undertake not to refer it to any other publication. Except for exceptions, the translation of texts that due to their importance and restricted access have not circulated in the Spanish-speaking media can be accepted. The reference to the original publication will be included in a footnote at the beginning of the text.

The evaluation process to determine the publication of contributions is carried out by the Executive Committee for the articles included in the sections: "Presentation", "Academic articles" and "Notes". Regarding "Dossier Articles", the process is led by the "Coordinator" designated for the said dossier.

In the case of "Academic articles", the Executive Council is responsible for issuing the acknowledgment of receipt of the manuscript (by contact email), indicating whether it is accepted for evaluation or not. In this sense, the Executive Council may reject the proposal if it does not fit the theme and approach and/or does not meet the minimum academic requirements.

After acceptance, the Editor will evaluate and recommend some first formal and content suggestions. After receiving a new version by the author, we proceed with the evaluation using the “pairs” or “double-blind” system. Two expert external reviewers will be used. The anonymity of the author and evaluator will be maintained at all times. From time to time, the list of past issue reviewers will be published in the magazine, thereby expressing public appreciation. A recent example of the above in the following link: https://revistas.ucsp.edu.pe/index.php/Allpanchis/article/view/1321, where the name of the evaluators for numbers 85 and 86 are listed.

The opinion of the evaluators, through a formal document (available at: https://revistas.ucsp.edu.pe/index.php/Allpanchis/article/view/1179/427), will be one of: “Acceptance without changes "," Acceptance with suggestions "," Acceptable with changes "and" Rejected ". The author will be informed of the decision and report, with the following overviews: In the second case, the author may send a new version according to the suggestions. In the third scenario, the author is required to submit a new version with the suggested changes, after which the role of new evaluator will remain in the Editor / Council. The term for the modified version is thirty (30) days from the date of the mail sent.

The Editor / Editorial Board resides the final decision of acceptance of the article, considering the evaluations.

Once the article is approved, the author (s) must sign the authorization form for the publication of their manuscript. Said format may be received from the Executive Council.

In this document, the author will establish in writing (a) that his manuscript is original and unpublished and that it has not been sent to another publication simultaneously; (b) that you assign Allpanchis the rights to reproduce your article in the printed and digital version of the magazine; and (c) that you authorize the inclusion of your email in the respective credits.

Once the article is accepted, the editor may require that, as part of the editing and style correction process, correct some errors, verify certain information or clarify dark areas in the writing. In this case, you will have a maximum period of seven (7) business days to respond to the questions raised and return your corrected writing. In this process, the introduction of substantial changes in the text will not be allowed, but only the correction of errors in the accepted version.

8. Metadata

The text of the article should include two brief summaries of the text, both in Spanish and English. In each case it should not exceed 150 words. Additionally, it must include five descriptors or keywords of the content in both languages ??in order to facilitate its localization.

For the normalization of the writing of the authors' names, Allpanchis uses the persistent digital identifier provided by ORCID.

The published version will include the date of receipt and approval.

9. Anti-plagiarism policy

Ethics, academic experience, and knowledge of the different actors involved in the evaluation process are appealed to in order to detect possible plagiarism of the articles submitted. Starting with issue 87 (2021-I), Allpanchis will submit received texts to the Turnitin program's match analysis.
