Abstract

Idealization is almost a norm in the study of the contemporary peasantry. It is frequently argued that the peasant communities constitute until today the emporium of an economic system based on principles of ecological complementarity, reciprocity, community organization and a logic of family subsistence. The overcoming of the dualist scheme in the conception of Peruvian society and the recognition of the deep capitalist penetration in the countryside have done little to modify this mythologized vision.
