Abstract

There are abundant studies that have addressed the way in which the Andean inhabitants experience their landscape, inhabited by a variety of superterrestrial beings, the result of the superposition of diverse traditions deeply singularized in this context. The hills, landmarks and natural sanctuaries are some of the symbols inscribed in a territory that "have the power" to decide on the destiny or "luck" of the runas (Bastien, 1978; Harris, 1982; Allen, 1988; Valderrama and Escalante, 1988). Fearful of the power that can be exerted sometimes capriciously, always unappealable, the runas establish a reciprocal relationship with a deeply anthropomorphized territory.
