Abstract

For dozens of years, beginning in the 1960s, the Amazon was presented to the Western world as a uniform and monotonous region, devoid of physiographic and ecological diversity. A space without people and without history, possible object of any manipulation through projects conceived from a distance, or unpunished subject of proposals for pharaonic works, linked to a false concept of development. Perhaps this is due to the successive and almost always irreversible failures of national policies for the Amazon.
