Abstract

In contemporary Peru, one of the probably most radical agrarian reforms in Latin America has taken place, after those of Mexico and Bolivia. This achieved, first, the liquidation of the latifundist system and the promotion of cooperatives and associative forms of production in the countryside; then, the fragmentation of cooperatives and the redistribution of land among peasants, whose massiveness, finally, led to the system of small family production units as the fundamental form of land tenure.
