Abstract

From time to time historians remind us that Peru is an ancient country. At times, reality itself insists on showing us this. Peru is, by the way, an old country but not as old as India, where Salam Rushdie wrote Midnight's Children, the novel that made him famous. Rushdie tells in it the exciting story of a group of his compatriots who had the happy coincidence of being born at midnight on the day of India's national independence. In this case, the biographies introduce us to a scenario where long-lasting processes, far-reaching socio-political changes and boiling inner worlds come together.
