Abstract

The following data has been compiled based on the birth certificates that we have found in the mayor's office of San Jerónimo, department of Cusco, before these were sent to Lima. This is a complete sample of all the 136 births registered on June 1st and December 31st, 1972. The data correspond to the parents of the newborns, and since the sample is complete, it can be assumed that it is representative of the population of reproductive age in the district of San Jerónimo. As the certificates include a greater number of questions of a sociological nature than the civil status records, they constitute the best source of socio-demographic information that we have found in almost a year of studies in San Jerónimo.
