Ethical guidelines

Allpanchis’ ethical guidelines

Allpanchis, an academic journal of social sciences founded in 1969 by the Instituto de Pastoral Andina (IPA) and currently edited by the Universidad Católica San Pablo (UCSP), establishes in this document its code of good practices. In this sense, all the people involved in the different processes of application, opinion and arbitration, edition, correction, dissemination, academic management and information management of Allpanchis, subscribe to the principles and practices that guide the work of our journal and that are indicated below:

Institutional and international adhesions

Allpanchis adheres to the international standards established in the Code of conduct and best practice guidelines for journal editors, prepared by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE, for Committee on Publication Ethics) and published in 2011.

In the same way, it subscribes to the San Francisco Declaration on the evaluation of research, and to the "Principles of Professional Responsibility" defined by the American Anthropological Association.

Likewise, the Allpanchis code of ethics is framed in the document Code of Ethics for Research (version of June 2017), approved and valid for the Universidad Católica San Pablo.

I. Commitment of authors

Authors must guarantee that the manuscript sent to Allpanchis meets the following conditions:

  1. Declaration of authorship, originality and unpublished nature of the manuscript

The text presented for its application to Allpanchis assumes that its content is the product of an original and completely unpublished work of the authors who sign it and only of them. In this sense, the correct and precise identification of the names of all the authors, their current institutional affiliation, their email addresses and, as far as possible, their ORCID identification numbers must be included in the submission. In the same way, all the co-authors must have reviewed the manuscript in its final version and agree with the application and possible publication in Allpanchis.

In the case of co-authorship, the journal will maintain the order of appearance of the authors as received throughout the publication process.

The authorship, originality and unpublished character will be manifested by means of the letter that the authors will sign when the postulated text has been approved for publication. In it they will expressly declare the originality and unpublished character of their text. In the same way, they express that the article presented is not the product of improper conduct in the investigation, be it fraud, plagiarism or improper experimentation with or on animals or human beings, among others according to academic ethical regulations.

If the Allpanchis executive committee or councils discover that an article has been published in another medium, they will issue a public letter informing the academic community of the fact.

In the same way, the incorporation of mentions of other individuals who have made a punctual and key collaboration in the preparation of the manuscript is recommended. This will be done throughout the body of the text, detailing your collaboration.

Whether individually or co-authored, the authors of the text are solely responsible for the results and opinions presented in the document proposed to the journal. Likewise, they take it for granted, as well as the readers, that said conclusions and appreciations should not be shared by Allpanchis.

  1. Additional Material Rights

In the event that the text is accompanied by additional material (for example, photographs, illustrations, sources, interviews, etc.), the main author(s) must carry out the respective process to obtain the permissions for use and publication before the persons or institutions respective. In this sense, they will provide the magazine with the written authorization of those responsible for the use of this material in the printed and digital publication in Allpanchis. Likewise, the author or authors must correctly insert the mention of intellectual property and the necessary sources.

Allpanchis undertakes to use this additional material only for the author's publication purposes and not on other occasions.

It is extremely important that, in the case of interviews, photographs and similar material, the authors have maintained the privacy and integrity of the individuals directly or indirectly associated with this material. In this sense, they must have the free and informed consent of the people related to that information.

  1. Compliance with the format, citation and reference standards established by the journal

Before the application, the authors must confirm that the text has been prepared correctly complying with the indications regarding the format of the document, the citation model and the preparation of the final list of references as defined by the journal. The systematic and correct recognition of the scientific and intellectual production of the authors must be ensured through the citation.

Details are available at the following link: http://revistas.ucsp.edu.pe/index.php/Allpanchis/about/submissions.

  1. Anti-plagiarism and prohibition of simultaneous application

The author or authors expressly agree not to commit plagiarism. To do this, the author must make the quote according to the academic standard.

For its part, Allpanchis submits, starting with issue 87 (2021-I), all the texts received to the Turnitin program. If a match greater than 25% is found, the text will not be accepted.

Authors who apply to Allpanchis must not have simultaneously sent the same manuscript to another journal.

  1. Participation in the evaluation process

Allpanchis publishes previously evaluated articles. The expertise is under the blind peer system for the Dossier and Articles sections. For the “Notes” section it is reviewed by the executive committee, specifically, though not exclusively, by the editor. During the evaluation process, comments will be issued that carry different levels of modification of the original article. These will be officially reported by the editor to the authors.

The author and authors accept that the comments received are the product of an academic evaluation in order to increase the narrative and analytical quality of the text. In this sense, they will respect criticism and suggestions, and undertake to review them and include them in the new version. If any comment is not accepted, the author can discuss it, with all due respect and professionalism, in the appropriate place in the text.

  1. Letter of authorization for publication and dissemination

When an article has been accepted for publication in Allpanchis, the author or authors express by letter the authorization to publish the text in the previously identified printed edition. In the same way, they authorize the publication in digital format through the web page and the databases to which Allpanchis belongs at that moment or in the future. Likewise, they authorize the inclusion of previously indicated identification information (institutional affiliation, e-mail address, ORCID code and similar). The foregoing extends to allowing the dissemination of articles in different formats.

  1. Withdraw of articles during the evaluation process

If an author considers withdrawing their application, they must formally state their reasons in a letter addressed to the Allpanchis executive committee. This applies in case of co-authorship, validating the express will of a single author. Allpanchis will respect the decision when the reasons are duly exposed, responding to the authors for compliance with the will of the author.

If the article has already been published, the file will be removed, regardless of its support (.pdf, .html, .xml or similar) from the journal's web page. It maintains the option of making an indication of having removed the document.

II. Commitment of evaluators

The publication of academic articles in the Dossier and Articles sections is based on a blind peer review process. It has two purposes: to contribute to the decision to publish an article sent to the journal based on an objective assessment of the contribution of the contribution and, second, to offer an assessment of the scientific production prior to its publication and with the aim of aim to increase the level of quality of their writings.

To achieve this end, it requires the voluntary, supportive and professional support of specialists in the subject. They are assigned the following responsibilities:

  1. Acceptance of capacities and responsibilities

The evaluation will meet its objectives if it is carried out by experts in the field of the content of the manuscript subject to expertise and who have the capacity and sufficiency to formulate an academic and objective assessment. In this sense, the acceptance of the request for arbitration entails the acceptance that he feels qualified to make an opinion on the proposed manuscript. In the event that you consider that you do not meet these requirements, you must not accept the request or notify the journal if you discover it during the review process.

  1. Confidentiality and restriction

The reviewers undertake to maintain the confidentiality of their academic service. The same extends to the material and textual and graphic content received in the context of the evaluation and the generated product of the expert opinion, since it is unpublished, original and of registered authorship. In this sense, it is considered unethical and unacademic to use the material and content outside the scope of the review.

  1. Use of evaluation template

Those who have been entrusted with the evaluation process will carry out a process of methodical expertise. This is achieved by responding adequately, objectively and critically to the criteria of the template provided by the journal, which is available at:

The comments and criticisms made must be made clearly and well-founded. In this way, the authors will be able to benefit from the expert opinion issued by the peer.

They are not part of the academic work nor will expressions with personal and discredit overtones be accepted.

  1. Respect of schedule

The publication of an issue is a task with several interlinked phases. Within the pre-production process, the evaluation is an essential link to achieve the punctuality of the publication. Allpanchis asks the evaluators to meet the delivery deadlines agreed at the beginning. These usually last up to four weeks from acceptance, and may, however, be defined before the collaboration agreement.

III. Commitment of the members of the executive committee

Allpanchis has an executive committee as its main execution body. It is made up of the following positions: director, deputy director, executive secretary and editor.

  1. Academic profile and institutional exogamy

The members of the executive committee are active members of the academy dedicated to Allpanchis areas of study. By accepting the proposal to be members of the academic council or editorial board, they consider themselves as academics with international contributions. His areas of work are framed within the thematic interests of Allpanchis. To verify the above, members accept the publication of their name in the printed and digital version of the magazine, specifying their institutional affiliation and, for the virtual platform, include institutional email addresses, links to their academic profiles and in ORCID. The latest will be made visible at the following link: http://revistas.ucsp.edu.pe/index.php/Allpanchis/about/editorialTeam.

Institutional inbreeding of members will be avoided at all times. For this reason, the members must be mostly from institutions other than the publishing house.

  1. Quality production and transparency of the publication process

It is the goal of Allpanchis to disseminate content that conforms to the standards of the international academy of social sciences. To do this, it defines and fulfills different actions. Among them is guaranteeing the objectivity of the publication process through the blind peer system. More details at: http://revistas.ucsp.edu.pe/index.php/Allpanchis/Evaluacion.

The executive committee is solely responsible for the final acceptance of the contributions that will appear in Allpanchis. He relegates this task to the editor, who performs the task in close contact with the executive secretary. The director, with the help of the assistant director, will supervise that the editing process of received manuscripts is carried out within a strictly academic framework and the approval decision is based on intellectual merits and in no way for personal favor.

To ensure transparency and compliance in the publication process, the Executive Secretary will digitally generate, store, and preserve detailed documentation. By means of letters, duly identified with documentary reference, it will inform the authors of the reception of manuscripts and the final decision of the executive committee. Likewise, it will issue the evaluators a thank you letter, as a record, for their expert work.

Allpanchis considers it an ethical practice to comply that the same author does not publish in successive issues of the journal. Although it accepts the publication on more than one occasion by the same author, between one and another collaboration there must be at least one number.

  1. Confidentiality of the evaluation process

During the anonymous double peer review process, committee members will respect the confidentiality involved. They will not reveal at any time to external persons or institutions the identity of the persons who have assumed the expertise of a certain article. Nor will they reveal to the evaluators the identity of the authors of the texts to be evaluated. This is valid both during the evaluation and in the later stage.

To meet indexing requirements, Allpanchis will publish the name of the reviewers of past issues, but without establishing any kind of connection with the text produced.

  1. Confidentiality of the material provided by the authors

Allpanchis will only use the material received for the application solely for the purpose of publication in the magazine. The foregoing applies to the data of the authors, the academic texts provided by them and the additional material that may accompany the publication. Allpanchis will not use the material in other publications or transmit it to third parties.

  1. Conflict of interest

In case of conflict between an author or an evaluator with the editor, the director will resolve with the support of the deputy director and the executive secretary.

  1. Production objective and punctuality

Allpanchis publishes two simple articles per year, which appear in the month of June and December respectively. Each copy must have a minimum of six contributions, with the goal being to go up to ten.

To reach that goal, different stages must be met, which must be met on time. It falls to the executive committee—especially the executive secretary—to oversee these goals and coordinate with the publisher. Likewise, the director will intervene when these goals are not being met.

  1. Publication limits

In order to maintain objectivity in the evaluation process and avoid conflicts of interest, committee members may not apply or publish in Allpanchis under the "dossier" or "articles" sections while their membership is valid. The previous restriction does not apply to the notes section, since the texts that appear there are not evaluated by the double-blind system.

  1. International rules of ethics

The executive committee will ensure that the operation of Allpanchis is framed within the international and institutional standards of ethics specified at the beginning of this document.

  1. Representation and responsibility

In the public sphere, the responsibility lies with the director of the magazine. In matters of communication and resolution of external doubts, it will be channeled through the executive secretary, who will issue the official response.

IV. Advisory Council Member Responsibilities

The academic council and the editorial board are made up of academics with internationally recognized intellectual production. Its main objective is to ensure compliance with the editorial processes and objectives set by Allpanchis (blind peer review, publication timeliness, quality of contributions). Likewise, they assume the task of maintaining the academic contribution in the area to which it corresponds and within the established areas of reflection. To do this, it meets the following requirements:

  1. Declaration of academic quality

  1. Knowledge of editorial and social objectives

Members claim to know, understand and validate the editorial objectives set by Allpanchis. These are expressed, mainly, in section III of this document.

  1. Support in meeting objectives

Considering the challenges that the magazine proposes, the members are willing to provide help in the production of content. This is reflected mainly in the recommendation of the subject, of possible authors and reviewers. In this sense, they maintain close communication with the publisher.

  1. Limits of publication in the journal

In order to maintain objectivity in the evaluation process and avoid conflicts of interest, council members may not apply or publish in Allpanchis under the "dossier" or "articles" sections while their membership is valid. The previous restriction does not apply to the notes section, since the texts that appear there are not evaluated by the double-blind system.
