Habilidades sociales como factores protectores frente a la ideación suicida en estudiantes universitarios de Lima, Perú

El suicidio constituye un problema de salud pública global de naturaleza multifactorial y creciente prevalencia en población joven. Ante ello, el presente estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar si las habilidades sociales (HHSS) actúan como factores protectores frente a la ideación suicida negativa en universitarios de Lima. Se empleó un diseño no experimental, correlacional y transversal, con una muestra no probabilística de 843 estudiantes de diversas carreras universitarias. Se aplicaron el Cuestionario de Habilidades Sociales (CHASO) y el Inventario de Ideación Suicida Positiva y Negativa (PANSI). Los resultados revelaron una predominancia de niveles bajos de ideación suicida negativa (68.9%) y niveles medios de habilidades sociales (72.7%). Se encontró una correlación negativa moderada y significativa entre HHSS e ideación suicida negativa (r = -.554, p < .001), y una correlación positiva moderada con la ideación suicida positiva (r = .431, p < .001). Un modelo de regresión múltiple mostró que las dimensiones mantener la calma ante las críticas, afrontar las críticas, expresar sentimientos positivos y rechazar peticiones explicaron conjuntamente el 33.1% de la varianza en la ideación suicida negativa (R² ajustado = .331, p < .001). Se concluye que el desarrollo de habilidades sociales en el ámbito universitario podría constituir una estrategia preventiva eficaz frente a la conducta suicida.
