Abstract

One of the most important and popular customs in the province of Andahuaylas, which still survives through time, is the "RIMAYKUKUY". If in the time of the Incas, one of the four most popular festivals was the Warachikuy, in which the maqtas, in fierce athletic competitions, disputed the most beautiful maidens of the AQLLAY WASI, in Andahuaylas, cradle of the brave chankas, "Rimaykukuy" is latent today. This custom is of an eminently social and family nature within the peasant mass, according to my observations, it has varied peculiarity, especially in the districts of San Jerónimo, Andarapa and Huancarama, to the east; Turpo, Huancaray and Chincheros, to the west and north of the city of Andahuaylas.
