Abstract

Tourism in Peru and around the world is becoming the first industry. Optimists see in this activity a possibility of "overcoming underdevelopment" in the countries of the South, but beyond the statistics, which show that year after year the participation of tourism in national economies increases, many scholars share concerns about the impacts negatives that supposes the reception of numerous tourists coming mainly from the countries of the so-called North.
