Abstract

If we review the history of education in Puno, we will easily find a valuable set of enlightening ideas and experiences that are probably unmatched in other departments of the country. At the beginning of the century, Puno was a hectic scene of the struggle of the peasants for the school, which was not accepted by the gamonalismo that prevailed then. Manuel Camacho Alka and his modest school in Jutawilaya, in Platería, can be considered a symbolic figure of this struggle.
