Abstract

The citizenship of the indigenous population has been systematically questioned in the history of Peru. This has not been an obstacle, however, for this population —organized in peasant and native communities— to develop a permanent claim for respect for their rights as individuals and as peoples. In this process, along with other components, the "ethnic dimension" has been and continues to be an important factor of identity in peasant movements, coming to play a decisive role in the struggle for the enforcement of their rights, in their rights dimension. ethnic-cultural, are present in the claims and demands of the organizations that represent the indigenous communities in Peru.
