Abstract

The history of Cusco during the 19th century, and particularly the history of the city of Cusco, has so far received little attention from historians. We have been satisfied with some generalities, without delving deeper into the economic, social, and political history of the former imperial city. These generalities refer to the geographic and political isolation, the economic and commercial crisis in the Cusco region and the dramatic decline of the city's population.
