Abstract

What results from a joint reading of the articles included in this volume does not necessarily coincide with what each of them concludes individually. Not because I disagree with their conclusions, but because the privilege of a joint reading inspires more global ideas about the long-term relationship between the peasants, their intermediaries, and the state. The messages of the articles gathered here can be synthesized in four large blocks: 1. the existence of two truths: one state, one local; 2. the complexity and heterogeneity of the historical results of multiple forms of interaction between norms and interests; 3. the multiplicity of faces of the intermediaries between both realities and 4. the persistence throughout many centuries of underground and open conflicts.
