Abstract

Does cheap food in the city necessarily imply low income in the countryside? The answer to this question is traditionally yes. Politicians and economists agree that the rural-urban conflict is one of the most dramatic in underdeveloped countries. However, little is known about the quantitative importance of this relationship. In the present work, a detailed examination is made, with a view to such quantification, of the Peruvian case.
