Abstract

The book Sarah Bennison has presented us with is a significant contribution to Andean and anthropological studies in general. It is a rigorous study and transcription, into English and Spanish, of El Entablo, a document written in 1921 by the elites of the indigenous (now peasant) community of San Pedro de Casta, Huarochirí, Lima, to guide the ritualized social action that irrigators were required to follow when cleaning their irrigation canals (champería).
