Abstract

As is known, the most important moment of modern Peruvian indigenism is the decade of the 1920s, in which the existence of the indigenous community, successor to the old "republic of Indians", was once again recognized, and a series of suggestive social essays, restating the indigenous theme, after a long silence. Such essays are: Our indigenous community (1924) by Hildelbrando Castro Pozo, Tempest in the Andes (1927) by Luis E. Valcárcel, Seven interpretation essays of the Peruvian reality (1928) by José C. Mariátegui, The new Indian (1930 ) by José U. García and The National Reality (1931) by Víctor A. Belaunde.
