Abstract

In this issue, Allpanchis takes on the challenge of addressing a fundamental problem, about which there are very few studies and almost no debate: peasantry and political violence in the Andes. As if to emphasize the languor of this debate in the Peruvian social sciences, the core of the issue is a controversial article by North American anthropologist Orin Starn, commented on and criticized by his colleagues and countrymen: Frank Salomon, Linda Seligman, Mark Thurner, Deborah Poole and Gerardo Rénique, the latter Peruvian resident in the US. They are joined by Juan Ansión, "confused and irritated" according to his own confession, at this settling of scores between northerners.
