This paper seeks to establish the relationship between marriage law and the confi- guration of a mestizo culture in Hispanic America. To this end, it explores the con- cept of marriage from the Western and Andean viewpoints, and then analyzes the concept of marriage, the concept of marriage developed in Spain and transferred to the new continent.
