Abstract

The centenary of the War of the Pacific (1879-1883) apart from serving for a display of rhetoric, has also motivated significant contributions to the understanding of our historical evolution, among which clearly stands out the thesis that Nelson Manrique, graduate of the Postgraduate Social Sciences, held in November 1979, with the title Peasant and nation: the central highlands of Peru during the War of the Pacific. We present this commentary anticipating its publication as a book and convinced that its readers will share our enthusiasm for the text.
