Abstract

Countries usually have a flag that represents unity, independence or the most esteemed national values. Each flag expresses these values with its own, unmistakable symbolism, and gives them their own, unmistakable symbolism, and gives them the representation of national identity. What is distinctive about the Mexican flag is that three different traditions participated in its making: the indigenous, the Hispanic and colonial religious heritage, and the liberal tradition that proposed the founding of autonomous and sovereign states.
