Abstract

Belisario Boeto is a relatively small province, with 15,000 inhabitants and a density of 8 inhabitants per km2. Its capital, Villa Serrano, is the only important nucleus, with about 3,000 inhabitants. The next town, Mendoza, only has a hundred families. The rest of the population is dispersed in about 170 small communities that, in the best of cases, only have 30 families, and in many cases they do not even reach 10. It is in the Andean foothills that descend from a maximum of 3,840 m. up to 900 m. on the banks of the Rio Grande.
