Una mirada a la asociación entre la contaminación ambiental y el desarrollo infantil de niños y niñas menores de seis años en contextos urbanos del Perú

Los primeros años de vida son esenciales para el desarrollo humano y se ven influenciados por factores psicosociales, biológicos y medioambientales. Esta investigación explora la asociación entre factores medioambientales, específicamente la contaminación y el nivel de desarrollo infantil de niños y niñas menores de seis años en contextos urbanos del Perú. Este es un estudio cuantitativo explicativo que usa la base de datos de la Encuesta Demográfica y de Salud Familiar (ENDES) 2018 y el Registro Nacional de Municipalidades (2015 a 2018) para retratar los niveles de desarrollo de los infantes y la exposición a contaminación ambiental en el distrito, respectiva-mente. Los resultados evidencian una relación negativa entre el desarrollo infantil temprano (DIT) y el nivel de contaminación ambiental en el distrito para el tramo de edad de trece a dieciocho meses; y al explorar con qué tipo de contaminación existe una asociación significativa se encontró que, en aquellos distritos con mayor contaminación sonora, los niños y niñas tienen menores niveles de desarrollo infantil.
